Design & Development of editorial hub for Habitat, furniture and homewares retailer
Having recently relaunched their main e-commerce site, Habitat approached me to overhaul the design and development of their existing blog to be more engaging for their customers, connect them better with social media, have better product promotion and to be more in-line with their new brand guidelines. Working with Habitat’s in-house Design & Marketing teams, I undertook the UX design and full development of the site.
In the initial stages, Habitat’s marketing and design teams presented moodboards and inspiration for the site which had been drawn on established user personas and brand guidelines.
Based on these, I produced sketches and wireframes for the site which were converted into a basic prototype using Marvel. This was used as a foundation for the full site design which was refined and optimised for mobile, tablet and desktop breakpoints. Once the designs were presented to Habitat’s team and signed off, I could proceed to the development phase.
The site was developed on WordPress for its flexibility and intuitive content management. Performance and security were key to the implementation and I worked closely with Habitat’s internal development team to achieve it.
The blog re-launch resulted in a significant increase in traffic, time spent on site and a decrease in bounce rates. Being a more effective marketing tool for the product site, content is being published at a faster rate with lots of new guest authors.
